Pole Day 2011 at IMS

Today was Pole Day at the speedway.  It was probably the best one we've seen.  High speeds, bumping, rain, and a great battle for the fast 9 with fuel shortages and an unfamiliar driver taking the pole.  Big multi-car teams struggled while small teams surprised with top speeds.  Alex Tagliani took the pole, while Danica and Marco, two regulars, had to wait until Sunday to try and make the field.  Thanks Grandma for coming up and watching the girls so we could go!!!

Opening Day at the Speedway!!!

Next year's concept car for raod racing
Next year's concept car for ovals

Ok, I updated to the new editor on our blog page and I can't figure out how it works very well.  So our pictures may be in a weird format for a while.  If I try to arrange the pictures, it puts them wherever it wants.  Some go to the left, some go to the right and some go to the center.  And, when I try to put them side-by-side, it moves the picture to the bottom.  I do like the caption feature though.  The rest not so much, so bear with us while we try to get things figured out.

Today was opening day at the speedway.  And, they managed to get about 3 hours of practice in before the infamous May rainy weather set it.  The girls had fun, even though I think it was a little loud for them at times.  I think that has do with the shortened schedule and the prediction of rain for the next several days.  Normally, there might only be a couple of cars out a one time, but it was pretty much busy the whole time with 8 - 10 cars out at a time.  As you can see, Rylie got to sit in a real race car, an old one (something even Dad has never done and would love to do).

Just chilling!!

It's too loud!!

Keeeeeee-yahhhhhh!!!!!!

Rylie's been taking karate at school for a couple of months now and today was her first promotion ceremony. She's now a yellow belt. Her sensei says she's a leader. She did real well reciting her life skills "respect" and "bravery." And, she broke her board by kicking it.

This is Keith's new nemisis. We thought that the beavers from last year were gone when they came and trapped them so he decided on Sunday to go break down some of the dam so the water would drain out and maybe save some of the trees. Well, to his surprise, there's a new crop of them this year and they're not too happy with him tampering with their home. They're constantly on look out for him.

Let's go fly a kite... :)

Mother's Day afternoon turned out to be pretty nice after starting out cool and overcast. Rylie had gotten a kite a couple of weeks ago, but the weather hasn't been overly conducive to be outside too much. At first she was really excited, but became pouty when she was tired of trying to get it up in the air. We'll have to try again another day when there's a more sustained wind.

Grandma & Grandpa's new addition

Grandma & Grandpa Watt came up for the afternoon and brought their new addition. His name is Kaiser and he's so cute. Currently Macy is bigger than him, but that won't last for long. Give it a couple of months and he'll be towering over her.

Fun Spring Weekend...

We finally had a decent weekend to spend some time outside. After 5 days of rain, Saturday turned out to be sunny and warm. Brookie played in the playhouse and out in the yard with Macy. Rylie swang on the swings with mom and watched a group of new hatched geese munch on some grass by the pond.

On Sunday, we went downtown to have lunch with Mom's company and then watch the Indians play. It was definitely a yucky start to the festivities downtown. Of course we had to battle rain drops before the game started. Rylie had fun running on the hill in the outfield. Brook took in some pitches and then a little nap. All in all, it was a fun weekend with the girls...
